Fundamentals of Tissue Culture

Cell culture is a core laboratory technique in several molecular biologies, virology, and biotechnology laboratories.

It is a technique that is devised in the early 20th century as a potential tool for studying cellular behaviour, training in biotechnology‐related programs and manufacturing therapeutic drugs.

This introductory course is designed to introduce the applicants to the practice of laboratory cell culture, covering topics such as laboratory setup, safety, and aseptic technique.

Applicants will also learn the basic methods for passaging, freezing, and thawing cultured cells.

Upon the successful completion of this 4-weeks course, participants will have a basic understanding of the principles and practice of cell culture that they can immediately apply to their research or clinical diagnostic laboratories.

By the end of this course, the participants will be able to determine the concept of:

  1. State the concept of cell culture
  2. Illustrate the cell culture equipment
  3. Categorize the different culture conditions
  4. Practice the aseptic technique
  5. Rate the appropriate cell line
  6. Underline of biological contamination
  7. Assemble culture media with different components
  8. Examine cell count & viability assay
  9. Prepare subculture adherent cells
  10. Create subculture suspension cells
  11. Prepare freeze cultured cells (Cryopreservation)
  12. Arrange thaw frozen cells
