Bio 3D printing Technology

People have seen low-cost 3D printers or may be aware of 3D printing technology that can create such objects of a particular design and structure. However, 3D printing is also enabling life saving and creating personalized solutions for essential medical and emergency problems. Additive manufacturing, otherwise known as 3D printing, is driving major innovations in many areas, such as sciences, medicine, biochemistry, engineering, nanotechnology, manufacturing, art, education and other fields of knowledge. Recent advances have enabled 3D printing of biocompatible materials, cells and supporting factors into complex 3D structures called 3D bioprinting. It is being applied to regenerative medicine to address the need for tissues and organs suitable for transplantation. 3D bioprinting has already been used for the generation and transplantation of several tissues, including multilayered skin, bone, vascular grafts, tracheal splints, heart tissue and cartilaginous tissues. Other applications include developing high-throughput 3D-bioprinted tissue models for research, drug discovery and toxicology.
This course tells the story of this revolution, introducing learners to commonly used biomaterials and 3D bioprinting techniques. It covers fundamental concepts in 3D bioprinting and is a great resource for anyone new to the field and interested in learning more about bioprinting. Learners will discover how different techniques maybe used to incorporate cells and various biomaterials to create cell-laden constructs for tissue engineering, and regenerative medicine. Additionally, this course discusses the current state of the art and its applications and explores future potential of the technology.

By the end of this course, the participants will be able to determine the concept of:

  • The story of 3D printing revolution and general overview about 3D printing platform in medical field.
  • The basic principles of 3D printing (Technologies, components, software, and materials).
  • The process of 3D printing from designing the structure to fabrication and printing the final product.
  • Fundamental concepts of 3D printing technology in pharmaceuticals.
  • The most commonly 3D printing techniques used to print various dosage forms.
