Essential Molecular Biology

The course aims at giving a solid foundation in modern molecular genetics.

It is intended to help medical health workers with Molecular Biology concepts.

It will also work as preparation for further students in a post graduation’s programme in molecular biology or related topics.
The focus will be on understanding central principles and fundamental mechanisms for the organization, replication, expression of the genetic material, as well as on methods for molecular genetic analyses and gene technology.

The main theme of the course is to understand molecular genetics as an experimental discipline and to appreciate how knowledge in the field is based on experimental evidence, which leads to establishing the knowledge of molecular biology.

The course will use a well-written textbook as a reference.

Studies of the book will be facilitated and complemented by a series of lectures and practical seminars. Practical training in molecular genetics and illustrations of some theoretical concepts will be obtained in laboratory and computer exercises. The examination will be based both on a written exam at the end of the course and on seminars throughout the course.

By the end of this course, the participants will be able to determine the concept of:

  1. State the basic procedures involved in the laboratories.
  2. Conduct laboratory work and analyze findings in the fields of genomics and proteomics with proficiency and confidence.
  3. Underline information gained during the experimental plan to the design of a laboratory experiment.

Basic University training in Biological and Medical Sciences.
