Ribonucleic acid (RNA)

Obtaining pure RNA is an essential step in the analysis of patterns of gene expression

and understanding the mechanism of gene expression. Thus, the isolation of pure, intact RNA

is one of the central techniques in molecular biology and represents an important step in

Northern analysis, RNA mapping, RT-PCR, cDNA library construction, and in vitro translation

experiments. There are three main types of RNA: messenger RNA (mRNA), ribosomal RNA

(rRNA), and transfer RNA (tRNA).
