The course aims at giving a hard basis in modern forensic genetics. It is intended to help medical health workers in medical and forensic genetic concepts. It will also work as preparation for further students in a post-graduation program in molecular forensic genetic or related topics.
The focus will be on understanding central principles and fundamental mechanisms for the forensic and genetic material, as well as on methods for molecular forensic genetic analyses and microsatellite technology. The main theme of the course is to understand molecular forensic genetics as an experimental discipline and to appreciate how knowledge in the field is based on experimental evidence, which leads to establishing the knowledge of forensic genetics as one of the main CONCEPTS OF VISION 2030.
The course will use a well-written textbook as reference. Studies of the book will be facilitated and complemented by a series of lectures and practical seminars. Practical training in molecular forensic genetics and illustrations of some theoretical concepts will be obtained in laboratory and computer exercises. The examination will be based both on a written exam at the end of the course and on seminars throughout the course.
By the end of the course, learners should be able to understand the concept of:
- Deep history of forensic medicine
- Forensic science
- Forensic medicine
- Forensic genetics
- DNA fingerprinting
- DNA profiling
- Forensic genetic applications
- Molecular forensic genetic
- DNA fingerprinting
- DNA profiling
- Microsatellites (STRs)
- Forensic genetic case
- Biology and medical science students and researchers
- Bioinformatics specialists and laboratory professionals
- Professionals in biotechnology, genetic medicine, and medical fields
